I Have Remembered
What do I know of this man that I am?
Very little when I see my ghost passing me
through the mist of my unconscious!
What can I remember of my life?
Very little when I count the days past!
I am an infant when I consider
the hours that I have been truly alive!
But I have remembered the soaring beauty
that rises within me when I drop the chains.
I have remembered the black rage
that consumes me when I am lost in darkness.
And I know that my will is all that
separates these two brothers
I know when tears come, to celebrate
the joy of my manhood.
I have remembered the sanctity of all
around me as I walk my path
I have remembered the mysterious beauty
of a woman’s touch as I reach out for it
I have remembered the gentle power within
me as I bend to kiss her lips.
More than this I have remembered the Divine
within me as I lie in the darkness of my remembering.
